Internships for College Students

Whether you’re an engineering major looking to get firsthand experience, or a business student interested in applying your knowledge at an innovative manufacturer, Connecticut offers many paid internship positions across the state.

The Manufacturing Internship Program provides college students (rising sophomores through seniors) with an understanding of what it’s like to work at an advanced manufacturer. Besides firsthand experience, the program provides professional and networking opportunities, and personal growth. Working as a summer intern will make you more competitive when applying for jobs.

Do work that matters in industries including aerospace, electrical and automotive, medical devices, and sustainable energy.

Did you know that 70% of interns are hired at the same company they interned at? (Zippia, 2022)

The Future of CT Manufacturing

Companies across diverse industries and sizes leverage interns to bolster their business and support existing staff. Our internship program empowers Connecticut manufacturers to invest in future success while fostering connections with a range of talented individuals eager to contribute to the state's manufacturing sector

Receive Up to $14,000 in Wage Subsidies

All Connecticut manufacturers are eligible to participate in the program. Companies with fewer than 300 employees can apply for a matching wage subsidy grant, allowing them to receive up to $14,000 for up to four qualified interns during the summer of 2024.

How It Works

Students: Apply for Internship Opportunities directly with employers.

Students: You can also upload resumes for participating manufacturers to review.

Employers: Submit an interest application to get your positions listed on our Internship Opportunities page.

Employers: Review applicants and make hiring decisions.

Employers: Enroll your hired interns in order to fully participate in the statewide summer program (professional development, events, and wage subsidies).

Enrolled employers and interns: Register to join us for the orientation kickoff on June 5, 2024 at Trumpf in Farmington.

Employers: Submit application for reimbursement (for up to four qualified interns) at the end of the summer, no later than September 13, 2024.

In addition to applying for internships through company links, we encourage students to share their resumes with us. We’ll forward your resume to employers actively seeking summer interns. Submit yours here.

Students, share your resume.

  • I find this program incredibly valuable. Exposure is key, and it has opened my eyes to opportunities in Connecticut that I would have otherwise missed out on.

FAQs

EMPLOYERS

I need more candidates for consideration.

If you haven't already shared your information with CCAT, we kindly encourage you to do so by using the link here. Additionally, we recommend posting your internship openings on Handshake, a widely utilized job posting platform among colleges. Furthermore, we suggest connecting on CampusCT for increased visibility.

We already have interns for summer 2024, how do we enroll them?

Enroll your interns now to fully engage in the program, which includes professional development, events, and access to wage subsidies. Click here to get started.

Is the wage subsidy only up to $14,000 for four qualified college students?

Indeed, while all interns at small and mid-sized manufacturers are eligible for program participation, the wage subsidy reimbursement specifically applies to Connecticut employers with fewer than 300 employees. This subsidy is limited to a maximum of four rising sophomore, junior, or senior students from four-year institutions. Starting in 2024, the program extends to rising sophomores enrolled in Connecticut State two-year programs.

Enrolled employers will receive instructions for processing the matching reimbursement, which amounts to up to $14,000 for four qualified interns. These guidelines will be sent in July and the processing will take place in August.

STUDENTS

I submitted my resume, now what?

While submitting a resume to us is optional, students are required to apply for each position through the company link or email provided. Hiring decisions rest solely with the employer and the intern. CCAT facilitates access to submitted resumes, sharing them with participating employers for consideration. We also highly recommend that students explore internship opportunities with Connecticut manufacturers beyond our listings.

I already have an internship, how do I get involved?

Congrats! When a student lines up their own internship with a manufacturer, they can have the employer enroll with us through this link.

I can’t come to all the events, am I allowed to be in the program?

Certainly, we encourage active participation in as many events as possible, though we understand the demands of your responsibilities. Employers value your professional development, so we recommend discussing your commitment to events with them to collaboratively devise a feasible plan.

What types of events will take place?

We will collaborate with regional manufacturers to organize tours and professional development opportunities throughout the state. The orientation kickoff event is scheduled for June 5 at Trumpf's North American headquarters in Farmington. Additionally, tours are planned for Lesser Evil Snacks in Danbury and various other manufacturers across the state. Registration links for these events will be shared with enrolled interns and employers as they become available. Keep an eye on the Internship Events page for updates on all upcoming events.
